Earlier today I bought some batteries at the supermarket. On the battery packaging Sainsbury's had added a helpful sticker pointing out:

"Warning! This product is fitted with a security device which is NOT MICROWAVABLE"

Useful advice, undoubtedly, I would certainly have been annoyed if any attempt I made to microwave the batteries had been foiled by a security device, although I'm worried by the implication that the security device is the only thing in the packet of batteries that is "NOT MICROWAVABLE".

~So.
What happens when you microwave batteries anyway?

Yes. In the interests of science you MUST microwave those batteries right now!

Unfortunately, since I don't know where the non-microwavable security device is or what it looks like, I can't safely microwave the batteries without the possibility that the security device might be microwaved as well, and we already know that is NOT MICROWAVABLE.

I just had a look around the Internet and there are plenty of videos of people videoing random things (Newton's Cradles, iPod Nanos, a mobile phone (without a battery, apparently)) in microwaves. The fact that nobody has done it with some batteries does suggest it might not be a good idea.

and let that be a lesson to you. Could have used a sticker like that the other day when I warmed my keyboard in the microwave. :P
