Back in Scotland
Jul. 2nd, 2006 11:45 pmIt has been a while since I've had a break from work so I decided to take a few days holiday and head up to Scotland for a week. I came up on the train yesterday, surprisingly it wasn't very busy (I think there may have been some football match on that English people might have wanted to watch or something like that). Unsurprisingly it was late (for reasons never satisfactorily explained) so the journey ended up taking about 8 hours. It wasn't too bad a journey, fortunately although Cambridge had been quite hot (about 30 degrees I reckon) it cooled down quickly as we went north so we didn't have to rely on the vagaries of train air-conditioning too much and I spent most the time reading a good book [1] so it didn't seem as long as it was.
I'll probably spend most of the next few days visiting family and just generally relaxing. I'm also planning to go down to Edinburgh on Saturday and meet a few friends from university [2] - possibly going to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 as it comes out that weekend and I anticipate it being good fun (even if the trailer does make me think I may have problems accepting Bill Nighy with the face of a CGI squid as a credible villain).
[1] An entertaining novel called "The Lies Of Locke Lamora" about a group of confidence tricksters who find themselves a bit out of their depth when a war breaks out in the criminal fraternity. It isn't anything particularly complicated, but it is well-written and great fun.
[2] By the way,
dsky I tried to send you an e-mail regarding this, but it bounced with the following message :
"procmail: Quota exceeded while writing "/var/spool/mail/dskymail"
I sent the same e-mail to
kalorlo as well so I guess I don't need to send it again, but I thought you might like to know your e-mail appears a bit broken.
