Fools, but not necessarily April Fools
Apr. 1st, 2005 07:58 pmI've seen a few amusing April Fools on the Interweb today :
http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=344812005&20050401195858 has the EU renaming Scottish place names that are gender or racially discriminatory, eg "Edinburgh City Council is considering revising Arthur’s Seat because the commissioners said its ancient name contained sexual undertones "likely to offend those visiting Edinburgh"."
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/04/01/steve_jobs_joins_ikea/ is quite amusing as well, as is NASA finding water on Mars at http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap050401.html
Despite that, the silliest story I've read so far today might actually not be an April Fool's joke, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4398345.stm - it's about Creatonists in Britain, I realise they can come out with some bizarre ideas but the paragraph "Many [dinosaurs] were killed off in Noah's flood and became fossils. Others hung around to scare our ancestors who called them dragons. Bill Cooper, a council member of CSM, argues the 8th Century poem Beowulf records a genuine encounter with a Tyrannosaurus Rex." just takes the whole thing to a new level of stupidity.
Actually, Beowulf fighting a T-Rex could make a good B-movie...
