I guess it must be about 2 or 3 years since I first heard about this Livejournal thing from someone I knew on Usenet. At the time I wasn't entirely convinced about the idea of talking about myself on the Internet. I'm still not particularly keen on that idea, but fortunately most people on here seem to content themselves with random comments on films/DVDs/TV series/books/music/computers/politics/news - exactly the sort of thing I tend to post to Usenet/e-mail lists at the moment. Over the years I've heard more and more people I know talking about Livejournal, sometimes suggesting I should give it a try myself. I never seemed to actually get around to it before, but after it being suggested for the 270983th time (this time by Heather/Kalorlo) I've finally given in, and signed up. I'm not sure how much I'll use it, but at least I can give it a try.

PS I've attempted to find people I might know by looking through people's friends list - but I might have missed some. Is there anyone else around you think I would know?

Hiya.

I'll poke [livejournal.com profile] kalorlo to get her to add you to her friends list :-)

Bwaha! Now we just need to poke Alex...

A few communities you might want to have a look at:
[livejournal.com profile] instant_fanzine - does what it says and also has its own book group with monthly discussions (though am yet to join in properly with those...)
[livejournal.com profile] geekend - shiny geeky tech.
[livejournal.com profile] shortform - reviews of short fiction, mostly sciffy-ish so far, but not restricted to that.

You might notice some similarities in the membership of all these...

Oh, and I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't pimp [livejournal.com profile] limyaael again. Have a look at her fantasy rants even if you're not interested in her stories as well. (She has an "ask to be friended" policy: the rants are unlocked, but other posts are friends-locked and the writing journals are separate).

I'm a bit surprised Alex isn't here yet. It doesn't seem right that there's a form of Internet communication he doesn't take part in.

Life's been OK recently. Cambridge is quite a nice place - I'd prefer to still be in Edinburgh but I'm happy enough here.
