I went to the cinema today to see "Tell No-One", which I'd say is one of the best film I've seen so far this year (although so far it has been a year largely lacking in classic films). It is a French thriller with a vaguely Fugitive-like plot - the main character is still grieving over the brutal murder of his wife 8 years ago (at the time of the murder he was also severely beaten so can't remember much of the incident). After two more bodies are discovered near where his wife was killed he comes under suspicion of the murder and simultaneously starts to receive mysterious e-mail message showing live videos of a woman who appears to be his wife, still alive - the e-mails warn him to "Tell no-one". Soon he is forced to go on the run from the police as he tries to figure out what is going on and the audience tries to figure out if he is really innocent.

I thought the acting, directing and writing were all very good. I particularly like the unusual chase scene where the main character escapes from the police in a desperate and clumsy way which seemed more realistic than the usual thriller escape scene. I was initially a bit afraid it would have been one of those movies where the plot twists made it too implausible, but although there were quite a few plot twists it does all seem to make perfect sense in the end (although I could nitpick some of the ways they used computer technology as being unrealistic). There are a few surprisingly funny moments as well.

While I was there I picked up a brochure for the Cambridge International Film Festival. In previous years I've been away for most of the festival and missed some interesting-sounding films (although I did get to see "A Scanner Darkly" last year. Unfortunately, this year when I am in Cambridge and able to go to it, they don't seem to have any interesting films on - although there are a couple of animé films that might be interesting. Oddest film is what appears to be an animé remake of Highlander. I'm not sure that's a good idea.
