Meme from [livejournal.com profile] rockstarwookie et al:
Randomise your music collection and list the first few opening lines from the first 10 songs on the list. See if you can guess the Song and Artist from them with just the power of your mind (i.e. without an Internet search)

1 - We were walking, walking in two worlds
2 - I met him in a crowded room, where people go to drink away their gloom
3 - There's a plane and I am flying. There's a mountain waiting for me.
4 - Every Silver Lining has a Cloud, and each piece of good fortune must be paid for by the pound.
5 - Take me somewhere quiet please, these motorway exit gates are calling to me dearly and I need a place to go
6 - The Sea it swells, like a sore head and the night it is aching.
7 - There's thunder clouds round the hometown bay, as I walk out in the rain.
8 - God damn you half-Japanese girls, do it to me every time
9 - All of us seem to walk away from everything, it takes a certain amount of originality to describe this place as home
10 - Until Sally I was never happy, I needed so much more.

I'll admit I didn't literally follow the 'instructions' and rejected some songs that were variously:
- so obscure I wouldn't be able to get them, and I own them
- have the entire title in the first line
- are in Spanish so I didn't think I could accurately transcribe them

Most of them may not be huge hits, but shouldn't be too obscure mostly. I will be impressed if anyone identifies 9 correctly, since it is a b-side.

10) Sally Cinnamon - Stone Roses.

Crazy thing is, I only know this because I just listened to it for the very first time about 5 minutes before I read this post.
Crazy!
Does that count as cheating? :P

Correct :)

It's only cheating if the reason you just listened to it for the first time is because you had Googled the lyrics and then listened to the song - otherwise you're just lucky ;)

Yeah, it was a complete fluke.
The chain went like this:
I was trying to learn the lyrics and chords to "Roses" by Outkast, so I searched for the song title. When I was done with that I noticed it had also matched a few Stone Roses songs, and listened to a few of them, including a bunch I didn't know I had (I have a lot of songs like this) and checked them out.

How random is that?

8 is Weezer, although off the top of my head I dunno the track title.

and #5 sounds like every Smiths song I've ever owned. :p

8 is indeed a Weezer song.

I seem what you mean about 5 sound like it could be a Smiths lyrics, but it isn't.

Also, I didn't exactly follow the instructions either, otherwise there would have been more than one instrumental on the list, which would have been very difficult to guess :P
And the same goes for songs which were far far too obscure or had the name in the title (e.g. "Every breath you take" by The Police)

The first one was 10/10 by Ministry, so I guess I could have attempted:

10 {{gurn gurn GURRRRNNY gurn} x400
20 {KRGGNNNG GHHKK HGKJJ HGGRRZZ GHGGZRR GHQHQGRFZZGKG GGRRRRRNNNNGGGG 30 CFFFJKPS} x10}
40 Sax solo.
50 silence.
60 GOTO 10

Who knows! Someone might have got it

If you have to write the question in pseudocode, then it may be unreasonably hard ;)

Of course that is "New World Order". ;-)

There's a TV music quiz show here in the UK who do a round where the contestants have to do vocal impressions of the intros of songs while the other person on the team has to guess them (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50UEsCYkFXI for example). I suppose you could do a similar thing in text form, it might make it significantly more difficult, though.
