Easter etc.
Apr. 11th, 2007 10:34 pmI'm sure having a five-day break from work over Easter should have left me quite rested, but now I seem to be more tired than usual. It isn't as if I was really that busy over Easter either, although I did manage to get a reasonable number of things done. It started off with going down to London to meet up with
xraytheenforcer,
werthead,
isis_newton et al at the Museum tavern in London, it was good fun and nice to meet X-Ray and Mr X. Over the weekend I went to see Sunshine at the cinema (brief review : a visually spectacular Science Fiction film that does many things well, sadly the ending is not one of those things that it does well although I didn't dislike that bit as much as some people seem to have) and watched the Grand Prix (entertaining start and end of the race as Hamilton fought off the Ferraris, but a bit dull in the middle).
Later on Sunday Phil came round and we watched assorted DVDs, mostly of various TV shows I can't watch yet otherwise due to my lack of Sky TV. "Heroes" seems quite fun from the first couple of episodes, although it'll have to get better to live up to all the recommendations, "The Dresden Files" is reasonably good in a poor-man's-"Angel" way, "Eureka" was also good fun, although it doesn't really have depth, I'm not really sure what to make of the plot choices in "Battlestar Galactica" season 3 yet and the "Millennium" episode we watched seemed to have borrowed the premise of the Da Vinci Code and done it significantly better several years before the book was written.
Speaking of TV episodes I need to watch the last 3 episodes of "Life on Mars" sometime. Due to my DVD Recorder managing to miss recording an earlier episode after it managed to reset itself it to the right time but wrong date after a power cut, I fell behind a bit, and I'm now having to avoid threads discussing the ending. I noticed
iainjclark commenting on it being a controversial ending, I'm not sure if that's going to be a good or bad thing...
I also managed to finish reading Joe Abercrombie's "The Blade Itself", which was entertaining. It is very generic but in an enjoyable way. I do now keep wanting to describe people using the "Say one thing about [person's name], say they're [person's characteristic]" format that's used in the book frequently.
