I'm currently back in Scotland for Christmas/New Year having travelled up here on Thursday.
Fortunately I decided not to try flying to get here so I managed to avoid the fog-caused chaos at the airports. Instead I took the train which was extremely busy but was at least operating, although since the two previous trains from London had apparently broken down the train was
completely packed and for some reason GNER decided not to book a seat for me when I booked the tickets on their website so I ended up having to stand between York and Newcastle. Still, compared to the struggles other people have apparently been having to get to where they want to
be for Christmas it wasn't too bad and I was even almost on time (would have been on time but the last stage of the journey between Perth and Pitlochry had to be done by bus because the railway line had been blocked by a landslip, but that was only the last 25 miles of the journey). The entirety of England (at least the bits I saw from the train) seemed to be swathed in fog and covered in frost - it was quite pretty, actually, but I was glad I was using a mode of transport that is indifferent to visibility. Oddly, the weather seems much better up here in Scotland than it was in Cambridge for the few days before I left - it doesn't seem right that the weather is better in Scotland than England ;)

For Christmas I'll be going to down to my brother's house in Perth where we'll do the traditional presents/turkey/watching Dr Who and whatever other stuff is on the TV/etc. I don't have any plans for New Year yet.
