I've just noticed that Play.com have started selling books... http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=front&r=BOOK. Free Delivery + Lots of Titles + Quite Generous Prices = A Good Thing, even if I do feel the vague urge to mock them for their brilliant "Buy 3 for £15 or £4.99 each" special offer.

I was meaning to comment on Sky One's new series earlier in the week but I seemed to not get around to it...

"Battlestar Galactica" episode one was really quite good, the mini-series got better as it went on and judging by the start of the TV series proper it could be the best sci-fi in space show since the end of Farscape. I bet it'll be cancelled soon, since it is Not Like Star Trek and Quite Gritty And A Bit Depressing which probably won't go down well with the typical American SF audience.

I also watched Hex (or Sky One's Buffy Rip-off as I thought of it before seeing it) which actually turned out to be Sky One's Carrie Rip-off. It was a lot better than I was expecting, the pilot is reasonably good - entertaining with a not-entirely-predictable plot and some mostly reasonable acting. I'm not sure how good the series will turn out to be - I think they need to keep up the Supernatural Horror bits and avoid too much Teen Soap bits. Overall a lot better than I was expecting a Made-By-Sky-One series to be, I'm guessing probably the only contribution Sky One actually had was to insist on having a gratuitous shower scene in the first episode.
